Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron will moderate a panel discussion on the Corporate Court at this year's Netroots Nation conference in Minneapolis.
Our panelists -- Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Dahlia Lithwick (Slate), Eva Paterson (Equal Justice Society), and Carl Pope (Sierra Club) -- will address the growing influence of corporations within the American judicial system, particularly in the Supreme Court.
In recent cases ranging from Citizens United vs. FEC to Exxon vs. Baker, and from this term’s AT&T Mobility vs. Concepcion and Wal-Mart vs. Dukes, the transparently pro-business Roberts Court has demonstrated a repeated willingness to elevate corporate power at the expense of the individual.
With several important Supreme Court decisions expected this summer, and with conservatives continuing their long-planned efforts to capture the judicial system, the panel will examine what’s at stake for the American people and our democracy.
If you plan to attend the Netroots Nation conference in Minneapolis next week, check out this great panel discussion on Saturday, June 18th, at 10:30am, and stop by our booth (#922) in the exhibit hall to learn more about AFJ and nonprofit advocacy law.
Nan Aron will also lead an informal discussion on judges, corporate influence, and the fight for a fair America on Friday, June 17th, at 4:30pm in the exhibit hall's caucus area.
